2018 National Career Pathways Network (NCPN) Conference

Activities at the 2018 NCPN Conference will include:

TWO WORKSHOPS THAT WILL DIRECTLY IMPACT THE QUALITY OF YOUR PROGRAM

Workshop (Morning)
Topic to be determined.

AMT Live! Go-and-See Benchmarking Visit to the KYFAME-Greater Louisville Chapter
The KYFAME-Greater Louisville chapter is a well-developed AMT Program that effectively delivers and features some of the most important signature elements of this national best-practice career pathway. Present for this event will be representatives from all levels of the career pathway: K-12 programs the directly connect with this chapter; at the 2-year college level the AMT students, faculty, and staff will be present; at the post-associate level Northwood University, the universal AMCP provider of the AMB bachelors and masters levels continuation, will be present. For all of those levels, the employers of KYFAME will be onsite. This visit should be incredibly valuable for program learning and benchmarking for both employers and educators in AMT chapters. Employers can gauge how their College Partners compare to the benchmark school and both confirm their own strong practices and gain valuable insight for future improvement. College Partners can learn how a peer school approaches and conducts their program, and do the same: confirm strong practices and identify areas for improvement (with live examples of how to do so).

TWO MEETINGS WITH KEY INPUT FOR THE FUTURE OF FAME/AMCP/AMT
Employer Focus Group
As the already crisis-level difficulty in recruiting effective skilled talent grows much worse the importance of building a career pathway to directly confront this problem becomes paramount. As part of continuing to strengthen the FAME/AMCP career pathway, and other career pathways as well, we wish to work with NCPN to take it to new levels of service for employers. We want NPCN to become a destination and a solution for employers with critical needs for top level skilled talent. This focus group will hone in on what you, as an employer, would find of such value at the NCPN conference that you would want to come to it every year, and feel that it was well worth your time to attend. Only you can provide this answer!

FAME Future Development
Many developments are occurring with the FAME Career Pathways. This meeting will bring everyone up to date and gain your key input on activities and developments.

PRESENTATIONS BY OUR OWN
Presentations by FAME/AMCP/AMT providers at NCPN (to be determined after the call for presentations and selections) will be featured.

Breakout Session (TB)
Individual breakout sessions will be listed here.

We like as many of our group to attend our members presentations as possible, both to strengthen our own program specific learning as well as to support our fellow FAME/AMCP members

FAME/AMCP/AMT: Why Do We Attend?
The core goal of FAME/AMCP/AMT is to consistently produce global-best entry-level technical talent.
 • A global-best program that produces global-best talent cannot be achieved with mediocre leadership, so …
 • NCPN is one of two major conferences that we utilize as part of building global-best leaders for FAME/AMCP/AMT Programs.

AMCP/AMT Leaders have 4 major roles at the NCPN Conference
1 – Attend AMT Program specific training to strengthen the ability of local chapters to effectively provide the program and to achieve the intended outcomes. It is the day before the conference starts (on the “Pre-Conference Day”), and is free (no registration fee) for those who are part of the program. You must, however, sign-up for it through the registration page on the FAME-USA site.

2 – Continue to learn what is happening in the rest of the career pathways world. In order to make AMCP/AMT the most effective, global-best pathway, producing global-best entry level technicians, it’s necessary to keep up with career pathways development and the resources that may be available to us (including funding) through it. If our colleges and program leaders settle into their own local silo it’s a sure bet that our ability to strengthen and improve will be handicapped. Please see the attachment that illustrates the role of NCPN in coordination with our own AMCP/AMT national conference.

3 – Participate with other AMCP/AMT attendees from different chapters and national leadership to continue our teamworking dialogue and work to improve together. There is a separate agenda-within-the-agenda for us. It’s attached.

4 – Give back to the career pathways world to improve our society. Each year there is at least one presentation at the conference by an AMCP/AMT provider.

Attendance
Each year each local chapter/program will ideally send at least one representative from chapter leadership and one from the College Partner. However, please note that often the training provided at NCPN is specifically intended to assist the college in more effectively providing some element of their required program. If your College Partner does not send a representative to this training who can then take it back and use it to develop the rest of the AMT staff, it will be very difficult for them to achieve the outcomes necessary for the program to succeed. This training is part of our effort to support our education partners. This is true for this year – 2017 – also. The morning half-day seminar will be “Teaching the Professional Behaviors,” one of the core elements of the AMT Program. The afternoon session will be a benchmarking trip to the MOFAME AMT Program, a great example of how to provide many of the elements of the AMT Program, including the Professional Behaviors, Manufacturing Core Exercises, etc. We will also be featuring representatives from all levels of the career pathway. K-12, 2-year college, post-secondary, and supporting employers. It’s a great benchmarking opportunity.
