The Golden Triangle chapter of the Texas FAME (Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education) program, proudly partnered with Lamar State College Orange, recognizes Ethan Gunter, an intern at Cloeren Incorporated, as this year’s Distinguished Graduate. Selected from a competitive group of peers, Ethan has stood out for his tremendous growth, professionalism, and commitment to the values taught through the FAME program.
Ethan’s journey into manufacturing wasn’t shaped by prior technical training but by a strong work ethic and hands-on experience gained through summer maintenance work at his school. “I’ve always been hardworking and wasn’t afraid of getting my hands dirty,” he said, which made the field of manufacturing feel like a natural fit. Despite his lack of formal background, Ethan embraced the FAME program’s unique structure, which combines academic coursework with on-the-job training. He described the balance as ideal, noting that if school ever became too demanding, employers were more than willing to adjust work schedules so students could stay on top of their classes.
One of Ethan’s most significant areas of growth during the program was in public speaking. He candidly shared that speaking in front of people used to terrify him, but not anymore. “Now I’m a lot better at it,” he said. This newfound confidence has allowed him to deliver presentations in front of groups, something he felt was unimaginable for him at the beginning.
Dereck Cloeren, Operations Manager at Cloeren Incorporated and chapter president, praised Ethan’s transformation. “Ethan exemplified the FAME teachings,” said Cloeren. “He showed the most improvement since his initial interview. He was so nervous then, and now he’s confident in who he is and the work he does.” Cloeren’s mentorship, combined with hands-on support and financial assistance from the company, played a key role in Ethan’s development.
For Ethan, receiving the Distinguished Graduate Award is a deeply meaningful recognition. “It’s an honor to be selected out of this group of fine men,” he said. The experience has not only strengthened his skills but also reshaped his career path. “I didn’t see myself becoming a manual and CNC machinist,” he admitted, “but now I do.” As he looks ahead, Ethan is focused on continuing to grow in both knowledge and ability.
When asked what advice he would give to others considering the FAME program, Ethan’s response was simple and powerful: “Do it. The knowledge and hands-on experience you will gain is worth it.”
Ethan’s journey is a true reflection of what the FAME program is designed to accomplish — transforming motivated individuals into confident, skilled professionals ready to lead in the world of advanced manufacturing.
