Through FAME and the AMT Program, you have the opportunity to invest in your company and to contribute to the next generation of advanced manufacturers by providing new workers (students) the specific on-the-job training that you need to remain globally competitive.
FAME chapters connect manufacturers with high-achieving high school students, veterans, and other demographic groups to ensure that an ongoing supply of well-trained, global-best employees remains available in the numbers and at the quality level that you need. Participating companies provide part-time, hands-on work experience and other company-based development while local community colleges teach necessary knowledge and skills with classroom experience specifically chosen by employers.
At the end of the program, students will have earned an associate degree, certification as an Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT), and two calendar years of highly valuable work experience – valuable for them, valuable for you (because it’s experience at your company!) – and be ready to enter your workforce full time with the skills needed to succeed.
What are the benefits of being a FAME member?
FAME companies form partnerships with local educational institutions to ensure a continuous pipeline of global-best skilled workers. Company sponsors also have the opportunity, but not an obligation, to hire students into full-time positions at the completion of the program.
How are students selected for the program?
Companies recruit students from high achieving high school graduates with STEM backgrounds, current employees, veterans, and other demographics. Candidates complete and submit an application for acceptance into the program. Employers in the local FAME chapter choose who is sponsored and for which company they will work.
What are a company’s obligations to the program?
Over the course of the program, company sponsors commit to providing valuable work experience, including competitive pay, hands-on instruction, and a schedule that enables student success. Most students earn a total of $25,000-$30,000 over the course of the program, enough to cover college expenses. You also agree, in partnership with other companies, to support a few recruiting activities and to provide a few days of your presence on the campus each year. In your chapter there may be a very nominal fee for each student that you sponsor to cover the cost of program shirts, a portfolio binder, and a few other low cost items. Your company must provide a representative to attend the FAME Program management meetings that occur at least once a month (more often in some locations).
